When you first posted your topic, I’ll be honest, I wasn’t sure there would be a whole lot of information about horror films. Boy, was I wrong. I’m really impressed with your knowledge of the genre and the quotes you used. As a former horror fan, I’ve seen every Nightmare on Elm Street film (more than once), all the Halloween films, The Exorcist, Psycho, and so many others. I was also looking forward to Freddy Vs. Jason, and couldn’t believe I saw it in an empty theater with my parents. I completely agree that there is enjoyment from the huge relief at the end. It’s really exciting, you get involved in the story. I think that the older films are so much more thrilling. Today’s films are more gory and scary in a different way. After I saw Scream, I was interested in seeing more scary movies. The first time I saw Nightmare on Elm Street, I almost screamed when Nancy brought Freddy’s hat out of her dream.
Before reading you paper, I believed that horror films only increased anxiety and fear, not aggression in people. After hearing the story about the London man, and the Queen of the Damned viewer, I’m not sure. Granted, they were probably already disturbed. I’m sure seeing something as frightening as a Rob Zombie film could bring out something horrible in an already disturbed person. I think House of 1000 Corpses and The Grudge is why I’ve only watched classic horror movies in the past few years. I thought you did a great job and you kept my interest. Your paper also made me think of my favorite horror movies, why I enjoyed them, and why I stopped watching many of them (they gave me nightmares and I would sleepwalk). I also really enjoyed the quotes you used and thought they fit in nicely in your paper.
i found this paper to be really interesting and good. i am one of those people that a big fan of scary movies. not because of the violence reasons stated in your papaer though. instead i tend to not like them because of the acting that is done. i enjoy the classics as much as anyone, but when the sequels get above five the movies seem to loose their appeal. this is especially true for movies like Saw. another reason i tend to stay away from them is i like the sensation of being scared. my body is telling me that this is something bad that it want to be a of so i listen to it. i understand why people like scary movies and can relate to the rush that many people get, i just get that same reaction when i sit down to watch a scary film.
